Mike & Andra's 2006 RV Trip!

Day 7
July 20 - Colorado Springs, CO to Gallup, NM

Today we drove 500 miles from Colorado Springs to Gallup, New Mexico ... near the Arizona border. The first part of the drive was south on I-25 to Albuquerque. This part was surprisingly hilly; long ups and downs made the RV engine work really hard. Then we make a right turn at Albuquerque (unlike Bugs Bunny) and pick up I-40 west. The last 100 miles into Gallup are rugged and very scenic, there are huge black lumpy boulders everywhere, from ancient lava flows. If I weren't already a risk analyst, I would love to be a geologist. Or maybe a meteorologist. The weather was beautiful today. A moderate breeze, not too hot, and mostly sunny for the whole trip.

We're staying at the USA RV Park in Gallup, alongside old Route 66. Very nice and clean. We ate the "Cowboy Cookout Supper" at their picnic area tonight. I had the 8 oz. ribeye and it was tasty. Later, we all rode our bikes. Dawson is doing great without his training wheels. The only downer was the mosquitoes. Big persistent buggers that ignored the OFF spray.

As I write this, I'm in the campground laundry room. Most campgrounds have one, it's very convenient. Tomorrow it's on to Williams, Arizona... where we will stay 2 nights. On Saturday we will ride the Grand Canyon Railway to the rim. It will be nice for someone else to do the driving!

False alarm! This is Las Vegas, New Mexico.

Interesting rock formations seen from I-40

Our rig and toad after we arrive

Mike on late-night laundry patrol. (Yes that's Diet Pepsi, not the caffeine-free kind. I know, I know...
