We arrived at the Benton KOA at 7:00 pm. It's a much nicer place than where we stayed last night,
but our site is right beside the southbound lanes of I-57 (like, 50 yards away). So there's some road
noise. But not too bad.
Today's adventure was a flat tire on the tow dolly. About a half hour before arriving at the campground,
Andra noticed that one of the tires appeared to be low on air. After I hooked up the power, water, and
sewer to the rig, I looked at the tow dolly tire and sure enough it was going flat. Ten minutes later it
was almost totally flat. Dammit! Not what I wanted to deal with at the end of a long day! But thankfully
there's a spare tire mounted on the tow dolly.
It takes me and Andra working together about an hour to change it. It's not as easy as it might sound...
first we had to unhook my mom's car that we're towing. Then unhook the tow dolly from the RV hitch.
Then we change the flat ... then put it all back together again. Unlike Humpty Dumpty, however, this one
had a happy ending. We will get the spare fixed when we arrive at Colorado Springs, where we will be
staying 3 days.
Tomorrow's a monster driving day. Longest day planned for the whole trip... 644 miles. We're heading
to WaKeeney, Kansas. And it's gonna be hot... the high is supposed to be 105 there. Woohoo!
Here's a picture of that infernal tow dolly the morning after we changed the flat.
After a quick breakfast, we left Asheville and headed west into Tennessee. Early afternoon rain showers
gave way to sunshine and we had a nice drive -- but it was a long day. 500 miles today.
